8 days from/to Marrakech
The Djebel Saghro is an impressive massive of the volcanic mountains situated between the central High Atlas and the Sahara desert. The highest point is 2 712 m.
The spectacular hills and dotted mountains, fascinating landscapes of the Draa valley with its thousands of palm trees, the nomadic Berbers with their camels, goats and sheep. Tiny green oasis and small villages of Ait Atta tribe.
Walking varies from 4 to 6 hours per day in altitude between 1 150 m and 2 000 m, except optional ascension of Djebel Amlal (2 542 m) which needs 9 hours.
Mountain local guide, cook and muleteers will accompany you. The mules carry your luggage.
Program
Day 1
Arrival at Marrakech, Transfer airport – hotel. Overnight in hotel.
Day 2
Drive to the south via Tizi n’Tichka pass 2 260 meters, After the city of Ourzazate, called the door of the desert, we follow the river bed of Draa valley till N’kob. Overnight guesthouse in Handour village 1 150 m. 7 hours to drive.
Day 3
Trek northwards through Handour valley, small Berber villages, green oasis of almond and palm trees, well-cultivated fields of corn and barley. First camp at Berkik 1 250 m. Approx. 4 hours walking.
Day 4
Today we zigzagging uphill to the pastures of Tifdassine 1 800 m, After lunch, a beautiful view to Djebel Amlal and Tin Ouayour hills. Meet semi nomadic people living in a big black tent. A narrow gorge leads us to our next camp Irhissi situated close to an old Kasbah, 1 625 m. Approx. 6 hours walking.
Day 5
We walk down the valley, A beautiful day in which we can see the herd of goats and sheep. The landscape is greener and the Berbers find a nice site for their tents and houses. Another river-bed leads us to Tagra at the foot of Tizi n’Tagourt. Overnight camp at 1 500 m. Approx. 6 hours walking.
Optional ascension of Amlal Mountains. You reach easily the summit. A panoramic view to the High Atlas on the north and the wide Sahara desert on the south. Back to the camp. Approx. 9 hours walking.
Day 6
We walk over a pass, and head through a plateau, A magnificent rock formation like an elephant head or a camel. We walk then to Tadout n’Tablah in order to reach the incredible rocks of Bab n’Ali. End of trekking. Camp close to Bab n’Ali at 1450 m. Approx. 5 hours walking.
Day 7
Meet the vehicle and drive back to Ourzazate, Visit the old Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou. Continue by Tizi n’Tichka pass to Marrakech. Overnight in hotel.
Day 8
Transfer from the hotel to the airport
